Web Development Bootcamp

Prerequisites & Expectations

For acceptance into our bootcamp, we are looking for individuals that meet the criteria of our ideal candidate.

Financial Need

GLAD Technology’s program is specifically designed to reach out to those in great financial need. We know that technology education can be expensive, and specialized programs can be far out of reach for many Kenyans. We are looking for those who, if given the opportunity, will take advantage of a quality education to improve their lives and the lives of their family and community.

Candidates for our program must demonstrate real financial need to qualify.

Educational Background

Learning technology can be challenging; learning coding and web development is even more so! We expect candidates to have an educational background that will set them up for success. A minimum of high school diploma demonstrates that you are committed to your education and have foundational knowledge to build on for this program.

Our program is taught in English; fluency in the English language is required.

Our target audience are young adults at a critical stage in their professional journey. They have a solid educational background, but are still trying to find a career path that best fits them. Our ideal age range is 18-28 years old.

Personal Character

Our bootcamp is a full-time residential program. You will be living and working with others who are also committed to their future. Community is very important to us, and we want to ensure that all participants are willing and ready to collaborate with others.

We have outreaches to all parts of Kenya, and there will be a number of different tribes represented. We want participants to embrace our common humanity without seeing different tribal or religious backgrounds as barriers to community.

We are looking for individuals that are:

  • Committed and motivated; ones that will finish what they start.

  • Eager learners; not afraid to learn or try new things.

  • Respectful of others, especially of others with different backgrounds.

  • Inspired and encouraged by others in a community setting.

  • Trustworthy and full of integrity.

Technical Background

We will be learning advanced concepts and skills very quickly. If you are not comfortable working with a computer, you will quickly fall behind. These are some of the minimum requirements needed to be successful in our program:

  • Can type at least 20 words per minute (wpm). A typing test will be assessed.

  • Know how to use the Windows operating system.

  • Are comfortable working with and organizing digital files and folders.

  • Can install/uninstall applications.

  • Fluent on the internet and online search engines.

  • Can receive/send email with attachments.

  • Comfortable with text editors / office productivity software (Microsoft Word, Google Docs, etc.)

  • Can work with digital media - editing images and pictures.

You also must pass our technical assessment to show you are ready for the high level of expectation at the bootcamp.

A Community Mindset

Preparing for your future requires a community of support and encouragement. We’re in this together! You should be ready to build relationships with others through your education and activities outside of class. Be prepared to learn together, eat together, do activities together, and celebrate life together.

To keep costs low, we ask that participants help with minor chores, basic cooking and cleaning activities to keep the camp operating. Students will work in teams to help with dinner preparations. And we will have a rotating schedule of teams to maintain a clean living space and classroom.
