GLAD in Kenya!

GLAD Technology will be hosting a 10-week coding bootcamp in rural Kenya this summer! This last Christmas, the Eastvold family traveled to the SHIRE Project at Lake Elementaita, Kenya, to explore a potential partnership and a site to teach our classes. Our time there was amazing and inspiring! We met with SHOFCO, an NGO (non-government organization) serving the urban poor in the Kibera slum of Nairobi. We celebrated Christmas Kenyan-style, singing, dancing, and feasting with our Kenyan friends. And Ben taught a week-long intensive workshop on foundational coding skills. After our visit, it is clear that our dream of bringing GLAD’s work to Kenya is now becoming a reality!

Our desire is to reach Kenyan young adults who are caught in the vicious cycle of poverty, giving them education and skills to change the course of their career. Nairobi is a significant hub for the tech industry on the African continent - they call it the “Silicon Savannah” - and quality training in technology will offer many opportunities for hard working young adults ready to learn. We’ve officially launched our course, and student applications are beginning to come in.

We are looking for sponsors of our students, and we need you!

The students we are seeking would never be able to afford a program like this, many living on only a few dollars per day. Our tuition is $1,600 per student, which includes 12 weeks of intensive in-person instruction and full room and board at the SHIRE site. Students will learn foundational knowledge and skills that will prepare them for a job in the technology industry, alongside soft skill development and community building activities.

$1,600 sponsors one student
(or $800 to sponsor half of a student’s tuition)
