Teaching I.T. Skills to Afghan Refugees

This last Fall, GLAD Technology partnered with CITE.org (California I.T. in Education) and IRC (International Rescue Committee) to provide I.T. workforce development to Afghan refugees in Sacramento.

This 10-week bootcamp prepared students for the CompTIA A+ certification, and with CITE’s focus, learned how to utilize these skills in an educational environment. With GLAD’s emphasis on learning in community, we learned not just in the classroom, but over meals and home study groups as well. As the culmination of the course, each student was paired for a mock interview with I.T. administrators from schools and districts around Sacramento.

In the words of one administrator, “I know this was just a mock interview, but I would hire each of them right now if I had an opening!”

Students met for study groups in January, and are now passing their exams and finding jobs in the field!
